Touro University Research Incubator
Study on Hair Loss & mtDNA Copy Numbers
We’re running a research study to better understand and treat Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia, or CCCA—a condition that disproportionately affects Black women and causes permanent hair loss. Our study combines several promising treatments, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP), low-level laser therapy (LLLT), steroid injections, and a soothing natural moisturizer called Eczesooth(e). We’re exploring how these may reduce inflammation and potentially restore mitochondrial DNA levels—basically, we’re investigating what helps hair grow again on a cellular level.
As a volunteer, you’d receive scalp treatments and small, minimally invasive biopsies—one before and one after treatment. You’ll be compensated $200 and can opt out at any time. There’s no pressure and no identifiable personal info collected—everything is completely confidential. You’d be helping pioneer new treatment options for an under-researched condition, and you might even feel better in the process.
